Why American-Made Matters

A Designer’s Take on Quality, Craftsmanship, and Conscious Choices

As designers working across Lake Norman and beyond, we are constantly sourcing products that not only look beautiful but also stand the test of time. Recently, we've noticed a growing interest from clients wanting to know where their materials and furnishings come from — and we are excited to answer that call.

With Independence Day right around the corner, it's the perfect time to celebrate not just fireworks and family, but also the incredible craftsmanship found right here in the U.S. In this post, we’ll share why sourcing American-made products is important — from quality to sustainability to real-world design challenges like tariffs and shipping delays.

The Value of American-Made

When you choose American-made, you're investing in:

  • Craftsmanship — Small-batch, handmade quality that outlasts mass production.

  • Shorter lead times — Fewer overseas shipping delays and quicker installation timelines.

  • Environmental responsibility — Domestic manufacturers tend to have stronger sustainability practices.

  • Local jobs and economies — Supporting U.S.-based companies helps keep skilled trades alive.

We particularly love incorporating American-made porcelain and ceramic options into projects where we need both beauty and speed.

The Tariff + Shipping Factor

With rising tariffs and international shipping delays, sourcing locally has never made more sense. Overseas products often come with:

  • Hidden costs from import fees

  • Unpredictable lead times

  • Quality inconsistency

American-made brands help reduce those headaches, offering reliability alongside design integrity. While the upfront cost may be slightly higher, the peace of mind and long-term value are well worth it.

Red, White & Styled Just Right

This Fourth of July, we’re raising a glass (or perhaps a sparkler!) to the American makers — the artisans, manufacturers, and suppliers who bring meaningful, quality-driven design into our homes. From California’s beaches to North Carolina’s rolling mountains, there’s so much local talent that deserves to be celebrated.

If you're thinking about a remodel or refresh and want to explore more American-made options, we'd love to help source pieces that reflect your lifestyle, support local craftsmanship, and stand the test of time. Be sure to check out our July newsletter for even more information!

Here’s to homegrown design — made with heart and built to last.

Happy Fourth of July!
